Inmate dies at Hutchinson Correction Facility

A resident at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility died on Thursday.

Officials said 36-year-old Matthew Rutter was found in his cell experiencing a medical issue, which prompted staff to initiate life-saving measures. He was pronounced dead soon after by EMS personnel. The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy.

Rutter’s death is under investigation by the Kansas Dept. of Corrections and the KBI, per protocol.

Rutter was serving time for 2 counts of aggravated burglary and a fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
