I know that a LOT of people have been trying to win our big jackpots with the KFD-I Wanna Win Free Money Contest. For me, it's totally different. I can't win the money obviously - but to be able to GIVE that money away is very exciting. When Brian and Kellie, Tony and I do the contests we never know who is going to be on the other line when it's time to play. We don't have caller i.d. and we have no control at all over who gets through.
We do keep a log of all the guesses - just like so many of you keep track. So today when it was time to play at 1:00, I KNEW that if the right person got through to play there was only ONE guess. I kept telling the other jocks that I really, really, really wanted to have a winner in this contest - each of them had winners TWO times and I hadn't had one yet. I have no idea what it feels like to win anything...I am one of those people who never win anything...but I sure do know what it feels like to give something away and I think it feels amazing.
As soon as I got to caller 20 and I said "Congratulations, you're caller 20!" I could hear the excitement in her voice; she knew what that jackpot was. Sherry Sanborn correctly guess $7005.34 and WON!!!! She was excited and I was excited...and we talked about how she'll get her money and then we said goodbye. Well, after I hung up, I decided I wanted to know more about her so I called her back to chat a little more.
I found out that Sherry works at Cessna and her and a co-worker, Leah, had been keeping track of the guesses together. They had made a pact that if either of them won they would split the money. And they are holding to their deal. They'll each get more than $3500!!! Sherry said they're good friends and they like to camp together - I thought that was nice. So I said "are you going to spend it on camping?" and she said that she was going to spend it on going to San Diego to take part in a half triathalon!!! She recently took up running and her and a friend had decided to go there to take part in that run. I asked if Leah was going too and she said nope, but she had told her earlier today that she wanted to start training too.
Earlier today when they heard the guess at 10:00 she said she told Leah "We got this one!!!" So Sherry wrote down her guess in big letters and kept in front of her because she knew if she got through she didn't want to accidentally say the wrong thing. She didn't and her and Leah are now BIG WINNERS! Congratulations from all of us!
