Many people from the Maize area knew Shelly Poynter - she taught and coached at both Maize High and Maize South High. She fought a brave fight again breast cancer for 13 years and lost that battle. Her brother Gerald (owner of Woodard Mercantile) and his wife Leslye have started a scholarship in her memory and the money we raise on Saturday will go towards that fund!
$500 wil be awarded to two seniors who have faced some sort of adversity in while school. Seniors can submit an essay in the spring and there is no academic or athletic requirement. One scholarship will be awarded at Maize High and one at South Maize High.
I think this is a WONDERFUL way to honor Shelly's life. So I hope to see and your dog this Saturday!
