When I heard the price tag for Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humphries was topping $10 million dollars, it got me thinking about my wedding to Brian.
I remember it well. We had money but decided to spend it on our kids and things for our house and go very conservative on the wedding.
For $2,500 we had a great day that we will always remember.
I even kept all of the receipts in a treasure box to prove to the kids later that doing a wedding on a budget is very possible.
We hired a photographer for $150. Photos By Bill. He did a great job. We got tons of photos that I cherish to this day.
My dress cost $297 on sale. Tux rentals were $200 (3 young boys. Brian's was free.) Bridesmaids dresses I found on a discount rack for $30 each for two girls. Flowers cost $323. Chair rental was $75.00. We rented a mansion for $250. I found a lady (Cakes By Mary) who baked my 3 tier cake for $162. I had a local caterer do punch and finger sandwiches in the mansion after the wedding for $350. We took our immediate family to dinner at a seafood restaurant for $600.00 (including tip.) I did my own hair and my mom did my makeup. The minister was a friend and we gave him $50 to perform the ceremony.
Total bill was $2,500. It has lasted 17 years and going strong. No end in sight.
I wonder how many good years $10 million will buy Kim?
