The Blizzard Of Oz is coming. It could get bad. Especially Thursday, with a heavy wintry mix across the area between midnight Wednesday and early afternoon Thursday. The most significant snow accumulations are projected across central Kansas, where 10 to 15 inches will be possible.
Before things get too bad, we need to get our supplies together. The government (ready.gov) says we need to put together an emergency kit that has the following in it:
- Rock salt to melt ice on walkways.
- Sand for our drive ways to improve traction
- Chains for your car/truck tires if you drive in rural areas
- Snow shovels or other snow removal equipment.
- A good supply of dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove.
- Adequate clothing and blankets to keep you warm in case the power goes out
- Gloves and boots
- Bottled Water
- Non-perishable food
- Flashlights and batteries
- A first-aid kit
I am adding to that list. Because I think you need the following to make it through any storm:
- Toilet Paper
- Nutter Butter Cookies (replacing Hostess Ding Dongs this year.)
- Diet Dr. Pepper
