70 People are out of a home after the fire this week at the Ashley Lane Apartments and several groups are trying to help them get their lives back in order. Look around your house and see what you might have that you can donate. I found a chair, a nightstand, a lamp and some clothes. I bet if I had more time I could find more. But give what you can.
Appliance and furniture donations are being accepted by His Helping Hands, 1441 E. 37th Street North. They are also accepting clothing and household items. Donations are being accepted 9am to 5pm Wednesday through Friday.
Suggested items to donate include: clothing, beds, bed linens, wash cloths, bath towels, pillows, dressers, night stands, kitchen tables & chairs, plates, forks, spoons, knives, cups, sofas, love seats, living room chairs and any other essential household item.
Sharon Baptist Church at 2221 South Oliver is also helping pull together items for the fire victims. The church is across the street from the apartment building. You can drop off clothing, toiletries and smaller household items at the church.
And, if you prefer to make a monetary donation, you can do that through the Refugee Fire Fund set up by The Espiscopal Diocese Of Kansas, 835 SW Polk St., Topeka, KS 66612. Or call the local office at 316-977-9276.
