The country crowd is the most fun according to Nicole Kidman. She was already a staple on New York and Hollywood red carpets before marrying Keith Urban in 2006. Now she's gracing red -- and orange and black -- carpets in Nashville and Las Vegas. "The CMAs are the most fun of any award shows," Nicole tells the hosts of ABC's 'The View.' "It's a community down there [in Nashville]. Most people that are in the country music sort of industry live in Nashville. They all know each other, and it's just very tight and very supportive."
Lady Antebellum and Jo Dee Messina are among the artists who have signed on to participate in St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's seventh annual Thanks and Giving Campaign. The fundraising effort will utilize social-network sites, iPhone and Blackberry apps to encourage fans to donate throughout the holidays. Lady Antebellum are already partners with St. Jude as part of Musicians on Call, which brings music to the bedsides of St. Jude hospital patients.
"This is some of the best singing I've ever seen on an awards show," said Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley upon accepting Artist of the Year: Duo or group honors at the first-ever American Country Awards in Las Vegas. The live FOX broadcast Monday night concentrated on music, music, music, giving most winners only a few seconds for acceptance speeches after they performed, and only handing out honors for about half of the categories on the two-hour broadcast. Carrie Underwood was the ACA's top winner with six wins, including the night's biggest honor, Artist of the Year. "Thank God for giving these artists the biggest love for the best music in the world, country music," Carrie gushed after receiving a custom-made Fender guitar, given to the winners in lieu of trophies.
Carrie Underwood is still aglow in newlywed bliss with husband Mike Fisher -- but don't mistake that glow for something else! The country superstar is not expecting her first child, as rampant rumors suggest. "As soon as you get married that happens," Carrie is getting a little tired of speculation that she is pregnant. "We did the CMT Artists of the Year special, and they had all these celebrity chefs come in from the Food Network ... The food was great, but after the chefs were done they all sat back and had a few. Afterwards I got to meet them, and a guy was bombed. He said, 'So did you just have a baby?' I said, 'You do not ever ask a woman if she just had a baby. Do I look like I just had a baby?' ... He got in trouble, and I took his drink away."
