Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have announced they have a new daughter born to a surrogate over the Christmas holiday.

According to a statement the couple released, the baby is a little girl named Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, who was born Dec. 28 at Nashville's Centennial Women's Hospital.

"Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret," the couple said in a statement (via PEOPLE Magazine.)

"No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier."

I can tell you this exclusively: according to a friend, they chose the name Faith "for what they needed to have during this process." And Margaret "was the name of Nicole's grandmother, who had her last child at age 49. As an older mother, Nic wanted it to be a tribute to her."

The couple, both 43, had planned to keep the baby's birth, on December 28, a secret for some time. The announcement (1-17-11) was rushed when news of the baby's arrival was about to be made public via a gossip website.

Kidman's parents, Antony and Janelle Kidman, flew to Los Angeles a week ago to meet their granddaughter. They were due to return to Sydney today.

According to reports, the couple had booked an entire floor of the Centennial Medical Centre in Nashville for the birth.

It is understood Kidman and Urban had tried to conceive through IVF but were advised by doctors in Nashville that they should consider surrogacy with an embryo using one of Kidman's eggs and Urban's sperm.

It is not clear if the baby was born by altruistic surrogacy or if the couple paid a fee, which in the US can be as much as $200,000.

Little Faith Margaret joins 2-year-old sister Sunday Rose and Kidman's two adopted children with ex-husband Tom Cruise -- Isabella Jane and Connor Anthony.
