Luke Bryan tells a funny story about a plan to play matchmaker for Taylor Swift. Taylor has been spotted at several Nashville Predators games over the years, so she is a hockey fan. And, Carrie Underwood’s hockey-playing husband Mike Fisher was conveniently traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Nashville Predators shortly after they were married, right? After that happened, one of Bryan’s friends thought that idea could work to recruit other great players for the Predators. “My buddy brought a sign to a Preds game that said ‘Taylor, Please Marry Ovechkin.’ He’s like the number one hockey player in the world, so we all thought that if we could get Taylor Swift to marry him, then maybe we can get him for the Preds.” Right now Ovechkin plays on the Washington Capitals NHL team, but you just never know when a hockey player might fall in love with a country singer and end up in Nashville.
Legendary country music duo and USO tour veterans Montgomery Gentry delivered a foot-stomping USO concert at Louisville, Kentucky’s KFC Yum! Center, July 26, 2011. The concert coincided with the National Guard’s National Volunteer Workshop and Youth Symposium, which began on July 25, and honored troops, military families and volunteers who support them. The concert was broadcast LIVE to deployed troops around the world and more than 8,000 troops, military families and supporters attended the exclusive USO concert.
Being on The Voice was both a blessing and a curse for Blake Shelton. Blake says the "face time" he got on the hit NBC show has made him a recognizable celebrity when he hits the streets. Blake says he's "been going to New York and Los Angeles for 10 years and you could count on one hand how many times someone has recognized" him. Now, he says he is stopped often on the street by people who want an autograph and to have a photo taken with the country superstar.
Blake has the number one album on the Billboard country chart again this week with 'Red River Blue.' Jason Aldean's 'My Kinda Party' is number two followed by Chris Young's 'Neon'. On the singles chart, Chris Young is #1 with 'Tomorrow'. Right ahead of Jason's 'Dirt Road Anthem' and Zac Brown Band/Jimmy Buffet's 'Knee Deep.'
Congratulations to Jake Owen. His summer time anthem, 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night', has been downloaded more than 550,000 times since it's release. It's the biggest single of Jake's career so far.
Sunday will be a mix of country music and car fumes at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Brickyard 400 is sponsored this year by country's "Big Machine" record label, home to artists like Reba McEntire; Rascal Flatts; The Band Perry; Justin Moore and newcomer Brantley Gilbert. There will be a pre-race concert featuring the Big Machine artists, sans Taylor Swift who can't make it. Plus Rascal Flatts will sing the national anthem and Reba will sing "America, The Beautiful" to start the race Sunday.
