A country song has been named the single most played song of 2011, in all genres of music.  Usually here we would start talking about Taylor Swift.  But not this time.  It was Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem”  that gets the honors.  The company, TouchTunes, provides jukeboxes for bars and restaurants across the country.   They report 900 million songs played and “Dirt Road Anthem” was the #1 choice. Jason says he is cool with the title, “ It means my songs are being played in most every bar and honkytonk in the country. Those are the kinds of places I used to have gigs when I was a teenager down in Georgia. It’s a really cool full circle kind of moment.”
2011 Top 10 Played Songs:
1. Dirt Road Anthem – Jason Aldean
2. Rolling in the Deep – Adele
3. Smoke A Little Smoke – Eric Church
4. All Summer Long – Kid Rock
5. Chicken Fried- Zac Brown Band
6. Down On Me (ft. 50 Cent) – Jeremih

CMT will honor their artists of the year. The special was taped two weeks ago and will air tonight (12/13) on CMT TV and www.cmt.com.  Five artists are being singled out for their accomplishments in 2011:  Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney.  The special is hosted by Rob Lowe.

Martina McBride is speaking out about why she struggled with her music for several years, “I had some people around me that were very negative. And I could just feel that the belief in me had kind of gone away and that‟s really hard as an artist to deal with, you know?  Although Martina is quick to point out that she is not blaming her former record company, she has a new deal with Big Machine/Republic Records, “Everybody that I‟m surrounding myself with now is so passionate and excited. That just makes you feel, like, renewed, you know? I just feel like I‟m starting over in a way.”  Martina’s latest single, “I‟m Gonna Love You Through It”, is climbing the charts.  She is touring with George Strait in 2012 and will be in Wichita on February 18.

The Band Perry is assuring fans they will always will be a country band, even if their music crosses other boundaries.  Kimberly Perry explains, “If I Die Young‟ has been the vehicle that crossed into so many different formats.  The one thing I remember about “If I Die Young‟, even when it just lived in a guitar vocal before any fiddles or electric guitars, it was a song that connected with people and that‟s really our goal, is just for our music to be the soundtrack for people‟s lives whether they like country music or pop music or rap music or polka. And we just want write songs that mean something to people and it‟s been a huge to be a part of that this year.”  The Band Perry will close out the year with a performance on Dick Clark‟s New Year‟s Rockin‟ Eve and will open for Brad Paisley at Intrust Bank Arena on January 20th.

Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney is having girl trouble.  Not with wife Tiffany Fallon.  But with the newest female in his life, Rocky his 15 month old daughter, “ She’s starting to talk and you see what she likes real quick now and you see what she doesn’t like when it comes to foods, when it comes to different toys.  It’s so weird, but she leans to the girlie toys, you know… it’s amazing how girls are so much different from boys and it happens really quick in their life and you can see that and it’s just so special.“  Joe Don isn’t the only Rascal dealing with girls.  Jay DeMarcus reports that daughter Madeline has transformed his life since being born a year ago.
