This week, Nashville Stew is counting down the 2011 highlights in Country Music. Here is our pick for #5:
Chris Young made history in 2011 with his smash, “Voices.” That song's release and trip to the top of the country singles chart marked the first time in 25 years — and only the second time in country music history — that a re-release of a song charted a second time and went to number-one! "Voices" charted in 2008, making it to #37 before Little Black Dress was released and went to #1 from Chris' breakthrough album, The Man I Want to Be. (:20) Chris is thankful for the song, saying "A lot of the songs on the record are really personal to me. I’d definitely say ‘Voices’ was a song that was really important to me, just because I’m a big family person, and that talks about…it’s just so involved in what your family and your friends kind of say to you, things that stick with you in life. I think that was a really important song for me to have on there.” Randy Travis was the other artist to do the same thing, 25 years ago, with the single ‘On the Other Hand.’
