Blake Shelton's father has died. A news release says Dick Shelton died Tuesday surrounded by loved ones in Oklahoma after being in declining health recently. Blake dedicated his win at last month's American Country Awards to his father, who was hospitalized with pneumonia. Shelton thanked fans: "Your support means the world to me. I love you guys." Blake will take time off from touring and taping "The Voice" of course. But he still plans to sing "America the Beautiful" with wife Miranda Lambert before the Super Bowl next month.
Opening statements are set for today in a lawsuit
Garth Brooks filed against a hospital in Oklahoma. Garth says he made a $500,000 donation to honor his late mother, Colleen, who passed away from cancer in 1999. In court papers, Garth says that the hospital presented mock-ups of buildings to be constructed that would bear his beloved mother’s name. That all changed three years later when Garth says he was notified by the hospital that they were spending the money but would not be naming any buildings after his mother. The hospital has refused to return the money, at Garth’s request, because they say the donation was "anonymous and unconditional." Garth was in court Tuesday as the jury was being selected.
Did Keith Urban beat up a photographer on New Year's Eve? A website written by a lawyer, call The Legal Lady, has a story up that Keith was lunching with Nicole Kidman when he attacked a photographer who snapped photos of the couple. The photogapher claims Keith jumped up and hit him in the face "more than ten times." Robert Wolf says he went to the hospital with lacerations and bruises. Curiously, the police were not called. And, even more curiously, there were other photographers at the restaurant and none of them took a photo of the attack, but they did take photos of Keith and Nicole eating and sold the photos to publications. You would think a photo of Keith Urban beating up a photographer would go for more money than a photo of him eating a salad.
Jake Owen has to break a promise not to cancel any concerts because of his broken collarbone. He had hoped that he would be able to play two sold out shows in Chicago this weekend. His doctor had different plans. Jake had surgery on the collarbone Wednesday morning, at his doctor's insistence. Jake tweeted, "so bummed." He went on to tweet, "probably won't be able to hold a guitar for a while." Get well soon, Jake.
