An 18-year-old cancer patient, Kevin McGuire, has a date to the ACM Awards on April 1st. After he told his sister he wanted Taylor Swift to be his prom date, she took to Facebook to start a campaign to get the singer to escort her brother to his prom. Taylor heard about the request and wrote on her own Facebook page, "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up ... Would you be my date? Love, Taylor." Kevin wants to go of course. He just had a bone marrow transplant, so he isn't sure that his doctor's will give him the ok to travel. But, while he recovers, he says he is taking in all of the excitement from the invitation.

Country music star George Strait says he’ll play in Kansas City next week to make up for a weekend concert he cut short because he was too sick to continue. Strait made it through two songs Saturday night at the Sprint Center before telling the crowd he couldn’t keep going because he was ill. The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/z1YXxK) reports the singer’s voice was labored and hoarse. Many of the 18,000 in attendance stood and gave him a rousing ovation after they got over their initial disappointment. Martina McBride opened for Strait with a one-hour set, and she says she will be back next Saturday to open for him again. All tickets for the first show will be honored at the March 3 concert.
A sad weekend for country duo Thompson Square: Shawna Thompson has lost her father to cancer. "It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Shawna Thompson's father, George Michael "Mickey" Mcllwain, passed away yesterday evening in Alabama after a valiant battle with cancer," reads a statement from the band's publicist. "Shawna and her family were by his side when he passed. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. We ask that you please keep both Shawna and Keifer, as well as Shawna's family, in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time."
