Martina McBride is taking on a new role at the Academy of Country Music Awards this Sunday: wedding singer. She will perform her new single, "Marry Me," with Train lead singer Pat Monahan while a couple from New Jersey gets married on stage. McBride handpicked Christina Davidson and her fiancé Frank Tucci to tie the knot during her performance in Las Vegas. They both lost their spouses in 2009 and met at a support group for young widows and widowers that Davidson started in their community. Their friendship grew as they dealt with the challenges of being single parents and the struggle to keep their spouses' memories alive.

Carrie Underwood and "American Idol" contestant Hollie Cavanagh seem to have a mutual-admiration thing going. Cavanagh tweets to Underwood, "Thank you so much for the necklace. I wear it every day and I almost cried reading the letter." She also asks Underwood to watch "Idol" this week. Underwood tweets back that she’s welcome and she never misses a show. Underwood says, "You guys are so good. Can’t wait to hear what you all come up with!" Will Cavanagh sing an Underwood song? This week’s theme has the contestants singing the music of their personal idols.

 

Scotty McCreery will return to American Idol on Thursday, March 29, to perform his new single, "Water Tower Town." The single will be released to country radio stations on Thursday as well.Scotty is thrilled about the reunion with his American Idol family. "That was my launching pad and what gave me my platform to do what I am doing now," he says. "I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and spending some one-on-one time with the contestants. I can’t wait to give them some advice and the ins-and-outs of the competition that I learned last season." The homecoming will be even more special with the performance of "Water Tower Town" because the song reflects his life in Garner, N.C

First Lady Michelle Obama will be on hand at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards this weekend to present Taylor Swift with The Big Help Award in recognition of the superstar's extensive charity work, especially with tornado and flood survivors in the United States. The Big Help Award recognizes individuals who take actions to better the world and whose significant impact on their community has inspired kids to do the same. The First Lady is a past recipient of The Big Help Award herself. She recieved it in 2010.
