Keith Urban "Nervous" About American Idol

  • Print

Keith Urban is the product of a talent show himself, so he knows how important the American Idol opportunity can be for the hopefuls we will meet this season. Between the ages of 9 and 12, Keith said he competed in three talent shows.  He lost all of them, but it helped him get some experience on stage. Of course, Keith says he was real nervous about joining American Idol and it took a while for the judges to all settle down and settle into their role on the show.  He says by the time they got to Hollywood week a lot of the tension among the judges was behind them.  Tonight, American Idol Season 12 debuts on FOX with auditions from Chicago.

Carrie Underwood is stunning on the cover of Allure magazine's February issue. Inside she talks about her marriage. Carrie says she doesn't worry about her husband, Nashville Predators star Mike Fisher, being unfaithful while on the road.  "I've never had to worry about him because I've never trusted anybody so completely. He just wouldn't do that," Carrie says, "Prince Charming does exist! I found one."

Last year, the Oklahoma native was at the center of the gay marriage controversy, coming out in support of equal rights to marry. When Allure asked Carrie to elaborate on her stance, the singer answered, "I'm in favor of acceptance. I am a Christian person, and I do love the Lord, and I feel no matter who you are, what you believe, how you live your life, it's not my place to judge. I don't have that power. I don't want that power. It's my place to love and to show God's love to other people, even if they don't live a life like I live. So that's where I'm coming from."

Fans can start voting next Monday for the Academy of Country Music's new artist awards. Nine nominees were announced Monday (Jan. 14) and they include Jana Kramer, Kacey Musgraves and Sunny Sweeney are up for New Female Vocalist. Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes are up for New Male Vocalist. Florida Georgia Line, Love and Theft and Thompson Square will battle it out for New Vocal Duo or Group. The winner in each category will be announced in February, with the three going on to compete for New Artist of the Year at the live April 7 broadcast. [GAC]

Chris Young will be given the CMA Triple Play Award for writing three number-one songs within a 12-month period.  He wrote and recorded the #1 hits “Voices,” “Tomorrow,” and “You” to qualify for the award.
