Toby Keith is speaking out on why he turned down the offer to be a judge on American Idol. Toby says he has been offered opportunities from all of the major networks over the past 8 years. "I've had through the last eight years all the major networks have offered me a sitcom. And they have all sounded inviting, something new to do. I sat down with them. In the end, television is just too much time." Toby says he just sounded like a lot of work, "I love the balance between working and not working and that would be working and working more." But, he was still honored and says if it was ten years ago, he night have had the energy to do it, but it's not in his day now.

Blake Shelton ignited “turtle gate” with a tweeted joke some people took way too seriously. Blake wrote, quote, "Does anyone know if the Eastern Box Turtle is protected in Oklahoma? If so, I didn't just swerve to the shoulder of the road to smash one.” It was retweeted over 600 times and some people got angry. NPR blogger Barbara J. King scolded Blake, “That turtle’s life meant something . . . Why would you be so cruel to a living being?" Blake finally admitted that he was nowhere near Oklahoma when he posted the tweet. He was actually in North Dakota on tour, "I never ran over a turtle. It wasn't even possible." But he asked a good question, "Can you imagine what this world would be like if people spent this much time worrying about people. I assure you NO turtles heard my joke."

There's a rumor that Brad Paisley is being seriously considered as a judge for "American Idol." Several websites are reporting that Fox is courting Brad. But Brad told US Magazine last year that he would probably not like being a judge, "I would probably hate it. I'm not cut out for that since I don't enjoy making commentary, and I don't enjoy the process of evaluating other singers. I cringe when I hear a bad singer." On the other hand (a nod to Randy Travis there), having a country superstar as a judge makes so much sense with "Idol" pumping out so many artists who are going country. We'll keep you posted.

One of country music’s hottest duos might be taking some time apart. Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles recently revealed that a solo career, both for her and her partner Kristian Bush, could be on the horizon.“Kristian and I are very supportive of each other in that way,” Nettles told Zap2It at the “Duets” finale last week. “He’s been off and writing with everybody on the planet, and obviously I don’t have anything on the books right now as far as scheduled to go in, but I hope to be able to do that one day. In the meantime, fans can catch Nettles and Bush on Sugarland’s ”In The Hands of the Fans” Tour through September. Jennifer will be taking time off to have her first child in November.

Blake Shelton's Tweets" get on Miranda's nerve. Not good for a newlywed couple. "I unfollow Blake quite frequently," Miranda admits to Us Weekly magazine. "Some days it is just too much." "If I'm going to check up on someone, it is definitely Blake," she notes. "I like to see who he is following: they are all hot girls. I check his direct messages." The couple may spar over Blake's Twitter account, but they can also come together for a worthwhile cause. The country superstars are vying for a VH1 Do Something Award (in the Couple category), in recognition of their altruistic endeavors, including a benefit concert in Oklahoma, which raised $70,000 for a veteran's program and animal shelter in Tishomingo.

Hank Williams Jr. is thanking ESPN for firing him, and thanking Wichita fans for helping make up the difference losing his ESPN gig made in his bank account. Hank may have lost the royalties for his Monday Night Football theme song but the controversy turned into a windfall in other ways. Hank says, "It has snowballed." Hank pointed to the giant jump in t-shirt sales at his concerts. He mentioned Wichita when he said, quote, "Well, how about $200,000 in T-shirts in cities like Evansville, [Indiana] and Wichita, Kansas and Dayton, Ohio. That tell you something?" Hank thinks his words hit home for many Americans. He was fired, you may recall, for comparing a golf game played by House Speaker John Boehner and President Obama to Hitler hitting the links with (Israeli Prime Minister) NETANYAHU.

A little oops at the White House 4th Of July celebration Wednesday night. The Marine Corp band started playing Rodney Atkins' It's America for the president. The problem is that song has been adopted by Mitt Romney as his campaign song. It was an awkward moment. Shortly after President Obama ended his remarks and was shaking hands, the Marine Corps band played the same song that Mitt Romney using as his "walkout song." There was no comment from the Obama folks.

The newest show about wannabe stars performing for judges is coming to the CW next month (August 16th), starring John Rich. On "The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep," the mentors, including John, move in with up-and-coming musicians and guide them over a 72-hour period. In the hilarious new promo for the show (see below), John jokes with his costars -- rapper Nelly, pop singer Gloria Estefan and heartthrob Joe Jonas -- about being a less-than-ideal house guest when he gets in the shower for one gag, and at the end, he offers his best guess regarding what "CW" stands for. It is now confirmed by the couple themselves. Jake Owen and his wife Lacey Buchanan Owen are having a baby girl, in November! Jake says he didn't know he was going to be a dad when he asked Lacey to marry him. He told People.com that the pregnancy was a bonus on top of the engagement and that he didn't want anyone to think he and Lacey got married because she was pregnant. Jake recalls, “From the day I met her, there was no doubt in my mind I wanted to marry her, and we always knew we wanted a family.” Lacey says they really wanted to keep quiet, too, until they knew whether there was a boy or a girl on the way, adding that the baby news “was just something we wanted to keep to ourselves for a little while.” You can see the full story on People.com.
