It was the late 1980's when my Aunt Nancy took me to a little deli in Madison that "everyone was talking about". It had classic animated wooden and tin toys lining the walls and a carnival like atmosphere complete with a 1940s carousel outside that was sure to impress any 8 year old. That place was and is "Ella's Deli".
Ella's is still bringing big smiles to kids faces well into 30+ years of operation. I had the chance to share this Madison institution with my kids over summer and felt that childhood magic all over again as their faces lit up with excitement and intrigue as their eyes scanned every inch of the place.
Ella's is a kosher deli with a full regular menu, large kids menu and a multi-page desert menu. It also boasts a large by-the-scoop ice cream bar. It's the type of place you dreamed of as a kid.The food is good. Service is friendly although notoriously slow. With the amount of things to stare at though, you likely won't notice. If you have little ones, or if you fancy yourself a kid at heart and are in the Madison area of Wisconsin, be sure to stop in to Ella's Deli. You won't be disappointed.
