If there's one thing I've learned since I moved to Kansas about eight years ago, it's this: Kansans love their fried chicken. And I've had the privilege of trying quite a bit of it. For years now I've been hearing about the fried chicken at the Brookville Hotel in Abilene Kansas. Recently, I was able to try it. And I must say, it's pretty darn good. So good in fact, that I would use other words to describe it however my employer may frown upon the use of such language on this "family-friendly" website. So we'll keep it at that, it's pretty darn good fried chicken.
When you walk into the Brookville Hotel, it feels old. Although in reality it is simply a re-creation of the original Brookville Hotel, that "surprise" resided in Brookville. It was recently renovated and removed from the historic location registry, but that's a whole other story for a whole different blog.
When you sit down you are not handed a menu. You're simply asked what you would like to drink and then the food starts coming. It's a family-style meal in which each individual is served half of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green corn, house made pickles, peaches, fresh biscuits and jam, coleslaw and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Not half bad, if you don't plan on eating for the next day or two. Let's get back to the chicken though.
The chicken is fried perfectly, it's full of flavor and really blows away anything Col. Sanders could have ever created. Don't take my word for it though, just take a look at the face of my 10 month old. That says it all.
