A Wichita woman has appeared in court on charges related to a crash that killed two people at a downtown intersection.

24-year-old Mia Collins has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and seven other charges.   Her bond was set at $500,000 and her next court appearance is scheduled for May 23rd.

Police said Collins was driving a stolen SUV that was involved in a crash with two other vehicles at Douglas and Broadway shortly before 2 p.m on May 5th.  Two people from the second vehicle, 70-year-old Maria Wood and her granddaughter, 12-year-old Rosemary McElroy, were killed.   Wood’s daughter, 36-year-old local musician Jenny Wood was critically injured, but she is now listed as serious but stable.

Prosecutors said Collins was on probation at the time of the crash.  She was driving a stolen SUV that was spotted by an officer, and that officer was starting to chase the SUV when the crash occurred.
