Former detention deputy charged with sex crimes
A 21-year-old detention deputy at the Sedgwick County jail was charged Tuesday with sexually abusing six different people since April 1 of this year.
At his first court appearance, David Kendall heard the list of crimes he is accused of committing -- two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, two counts of unlawful sexual relations, three counts of sexual battery, four counts of criminal solicitation to commit unlawful sexual relations and one count of making a false writing.
An investigation began when a male inmate came forward on June 3 and said Kendall had raped him. Another inmate came forward after that. Details of the other four alleged victims have not been released.
Kendall, who began working in the jail in October of 2008, is due back in court August 10.
