Floating dock to be set up on Arkansas River
The Wichita City Council has accepted the donation of a floating dock that will be placed on the Arkansas River downtown. The dock will be used as a launching point for canoes and kayaks in the future.
The council approved an agreement with Gander Mountain and the Greenway Alliance for the donation of the dock.
Gander and Greenway will maintain the dock and provide funds for its installation. They will remove the dock during times of heavy rains and flooding, so it won't be an obstruction for water flow in the river.
The city's park and recreation director, Doug Kupper, said this will add to the recreational opportunities for the river in the downtown area.
