Area firefighters very busy Tuesday night
As fireworks went off across Sedgwick County, firefighters were called to several fires in grassland and wheat fields Tuesday night.
Within a period of only a few minutes around 10 p.m., fires in grass and wheat stubble were reported in the 10900 block of North 103rd St. West, in the 12500 block of North 10th West and at 21st St. North and 215th St. West.
Structure fires were reported in the same period in the 900 block of North Meadow in Valley Center and the 1000 block of South Wicker in southeast Wichita, but those incidents were considered to me minor.
Firefighters from Wichita, Sedgwick County, Bentley and Valley Center were called out in the short period of time.
Within another hour, a minor wheat stubble fire was reported near Viola along 111th St. South and a house fire was reported in the 12500 block of Willowgreen Cr., near Pawnee and Greenwich. Firefighters cleared both those scenes within minutes.
The cause of the fires were not immediately known.
