3 children left in unattended car in west Wichita parking lot
Wichita police took 3 young children into protective custody after customers at a Wal-Mart store reported that they had been left in an unattended car with the engine running. Pollice were called to the store in the 6100 block of West Kellogg around 7:45 Thursday evening.
Police lieutenant Doug Nolte said the children were 8 months, 2 years and 6 years of age. They did not require any medical treatment. Nolte said the car was running and the air conditioning was on, but it was still 95 degrees outside and the car was facing the sun. The 33-year-old father was taken into custody when he came out of the store, and he was booked into jail for child endangerment, drug possession and driving with a revoked drivers license. Nolte said the mother of the children had been dropped off at another store, and police were unable to locate her.
Nolte said children should never be left unattended in a vehicle.
