A woman and a 9-year-old boy were hurt when their pickup truck collided with a large grain truck near Cheney Lake.

The westbound grain truck apparently pulled into the intersection in the path of a Honda Ridgeline that was headed northbound. North and south traffic have the right of way at that intersection. East and west traffic have stop signs.

Sedgwick County Sheriff's Sgt. Amy Osburn spoke with the driver of a grain truck.

"According to his statement, he didn't see the driver of the pickup coming when he entered the intersection," Osburn said. "They collided right in the intersection."

The boy was flown by helicopter to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in critical condition. The woman was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance. The driver of the grain truck was not hurt.

The accident was reported at around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
