It will cost a little more for groups to use the Century II Convention Center in a couple of years. The city council has approved a 2 percent increase to begin in 2015, along with a change toward day rates instead of the current rates based on six-hour periods.

The city's arts and cultural services manager, John D'Angelo, said the rental rates for Century II have not changed since 2000.  He wants to reduce the subsidies from the city and from the hotel guest tax for operations of the facility.

D'Angelo said the groups that use Century II have supported the rate increase. He said the city will work with those groups to help them plan for and manage the rate increases.

D'Angelo said the rates are fair and equitable, and they will make Wichita competitive with Omaha, Oklahoma City and other cities in this region of the country in attracting events.
