A fire at a south Wichita mobile home is being deemed as suspicious by the Wichita Fire Department.

"It looks like the fire started in the middle of the trailer," said Battalion Chief John Turner. "There were no utilities hooked up to it, so the cause is suspicious. We're investigating that right now."

Fire crews responded to the call just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the 4100 block of South Broadway, near Protection Auto Sales.

"In route to the call, we found a heavy plume of smoke we could see about a mile away," Turner said. "We found a single-wide trailer that was fully involved."

Turner said the building had no occupants, and was used for storage.
