Alligator seized at Lake Afton
A startling discovery was made while a teenager was being treated for a dog bite.
Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputies were sent to Lake Afton Wednesday afternoon after a 13-year-old boy was bitten by one of three pitbull terriers owned by his father.
"The man's son was visiting at the time," Sgt. Terry Litton said.
The injuries were minor.
A short time later, deputies found a four-foot alligator in a makeshift box in a camper-trailer.
"Basically, the gator could have lifted its head and the lid would have come right off, or easily crawled out of it," said Litton.
The father of the boy claimed the gator was purchased locally eight years ago. Animal Control Officers will check out the claim, but until then the animal will be detained.
"It's against state law to own inherently dangerous and exotic pets," Litton said.
