( UPDATE )

The water pump was repaired as of 6 p.m. Thursday.  Van Williams of the City of Wichita said, "Water restrictions in far northeast Wichita and in Andover have been lifted." Normal  pressure has been restored to water lines.

City of Wichita officials are urging water customers east of Rock Road in Wichita and all of Andover to not water their lawns until Saturday due to a loss of electrical power at a water pump station at 21st Street North and Webb Road.

The power outage has reduced water pressure in areas east of Rock Road. Westar Energy is working to restore the power to the pump station.

Public Works and Utilities Director Alan King said they are keeping an eye on the system to make sure the water pressure does not fall to dangerous levels.

"We're coordinating our efforts with the Fire Department to make sure we that we are able to adequately provide fire flows to maintain our fire protection," King said.

The voluntary watering restriction is not requested of customers west of Rock Road, because they are not affected by the power outage.

Westar Energy crews were working on the outage problem on Thursday.
