A man in a stolen car led law enforcement officers on a chase in west Wichita that ended in a crash on K-42 near the railroad tracks.

"The man driving the car that was being chased was going fast down K-42, south of Harry," Sedgwick County Sheriff Major Mike Oliver said. "The suspect struck railroad equipment, a light pole and two patrol vehicles."

Neither law enforcement officer was hurt.

The man being chased was hurt and taken to a hospital. At one point the chase reached speeds of 80 miles an hour on Maple near West Street. Traffic southbound on K-42 was shutdown for about an hour while utility crews repaired the damaged light pole.

The chase was about to be called off, just before the crash in light-to-moderate traffic on the streets.
