33-year-old man injured in semi-truck crash
A Hutchinson man is expected to recover after the truck he was driving crashed into the rear tires of a semi-tractor trailer early Thursday morning.
It happened on Pershing and 4th Avenue in Hutchinson at 2:24 a.m. A Hutchinson Police Department news release indicated Benjamin Branton, 33, entered the intersection without stopping and collided with a semi truck trailer that was westbound on 4th Avenue. It collided with the rear trailer tires on the tractor trailer.
After the collision, Branton's vehicle continued northwest and came to rest after striking the Kwik Shop offices at 724 East 4th Avenue.
"Branton was flown by emergency helicopter for head and chest injuries," Hutchinson Sgt. Brian Hirt said.
He's listed in fair condition at Via Christi on St. Francis.
"It is unknown if Branton was wearing a seatbelt or if alcohol or drugs contributed to this collision," Hirt said. "The driver of the semi, Richard Tripp, was not hurt."
The accident is under investigation.
