Pickup rams Wichita Police patrol car
One of two men wanted in connection with a police chase early Saturday has been arrested.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Sgt. Amy Osburn said a 46-year-old man was spotted walking in a field on 231st Street West, north of Maple. When a deputy told him to stop, he started running. He was caught and arrested by the deputy and a Goddard police officer.
Earlier in the morning, Wichita Police, Sedgwick Sheriff's deputies and Goddard Police set up a perimeter near 183rd Street West and 2nd Street after two men from a police chase abandoned their pickup. The chase began shortly before 1:30 a.m. when police were checking on a suspicious vehicle at Texas and Dodge.
At one point, the pickup pulled over on McComas, just south of Maple. The driver of the truck then put the vehicle into reverse and rammed the police car.
The two officers were taken by EMS to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis. Police Sgt. Bob Gulliver said they received minor injuries. The chase continued through west Wichita, with the suspects leading officers onto westbound Kellogg.
The pickup finally stopped on a dead end street a quarter mile west of 183rd Street West off Second Street. The two men abandoned the truck and started running. The Wichita Police helicopter and the canine unit from the Sheriff's department were used in the search.
The second man in the pickup has not been found.
