New warnings, advisories issued for lakes and reservoirs

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a toxic algae warning for six lakes and reservoirs across the state of Kansas, including Chisholm Creek Park Lake North, located near K-96 and Woodlawn in north Wichita.

Other lakes and reservoirs in the warning include:

  • Harvey County East Lake near Newton
  • Logan City Lake located in Phillips County
  • Marion Reservoir located near Marion
  • Memorial/Veterans Lake located near Great Bend
  • South Lake Park in Johnson County

Seven other lakes and reservoirs are under a toxic algae advisory. They include:

  • Atchison City Park Lake in Atchison County
  • Brown County State Fishing Lake in Brown County
  • Centralia Lake located in Nemaha County
  • Herington Reservoir located in Dickinson County
  • Lake Scott State Park located in Scott County
  • The north end of Milford Reservoir, above Madison Creek.

The KDHE says that all contact should be avoided with the water in areas that have a warning or advisory. Contact with the water could cause intestinal and respiratory problems, as well as skin irritation.
