Wichita Festivals will need a new president and CEO for the first time in more than a decade.

Janet Wright announced her plans to retire at the end of the year. She has served as the president/CEO since 1999.

"I have loved being involved with this organization, having had the chance to work with and meet great people, especially our volunteers," said Wright. "But I think it's time for some new blood and for someone younger to assume this role.

"My goal has always been to make sure WFI brings quality entertainment to our community, and I think that's been accomplished over the last 13 years."

As she finishes out her role, Wright will help plan next year's Riverfest, as well as this year's Autumn & Art on Sept. 14-16.

Chair-elect of the Board of Directors Bill Gardner will lead a search committee to fill Wright's role.

"Janet will be solely missed, but has certainly earned the right to a respite from the frantic activity her job entails," said Richard Honeyman, chair of the board of directors. "Our loss is her family's gain, but we know she'll be around - it's in her blood."
