Via Christi unveils new inpatient rehabilitation unit at St. Teresa
Via Christi Hospital on St. Teresa gave a sneak peak of its new inpatient rehabilitation unit on Wednesday.
The facility will officially open on Aug. 1.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our patients, as we look at patient-centered care, and we look at continuity of care, and the community need," said Cindy LaFleur, president post acute services for Via Christi Hospitals in Wichita. "What the physicians and communities have asked for is we be able to provide that long-standing rehab service to our community, our physicians, and more importantly our patients in west Wichita and beyond."
The new rehab unit will feature 18 beds. The facility will help patients recover from illness or injury with the purpose of allowing patients to function after their return back to the community.
LaFleur said the board approved the rehabilitation unit four months ago, and a quick turnaround has it ready for operations.
"This is a dream come true," LaFleur said. "This is our ability to provide that continuity of care, in that patient-centered environment, in that very team approach with the physicians, with the family members, with the patient and with the team.
"It will really open up the opportunity for function for patients as they enter their home and get back to living their life again."
Via Christi celebrated the new unit with a blessing and dedication.
