Kansas Star Casino provides school supply gift cards to Sumner County
Students in Sumner County are getting a big boost toward school supplies from the Kansas Star Casino.
The casino is providing a $100 gift card to all students in the county. It also is providing a $500 gift card to teachers.
"This is in keeping with the good corporate neighbor that the Kansas Star Casino is," said Mulvane City Administrator Kent Hixson. "They have done everything they said they were going to do and more, not only in the realm of the Kansas All-Star Scholarship Fund, but in many, many other ways."
Hixson said the casino has also helped with water and infrastructure improvements. He said, "they're good business people."
"Every step of the way, if we've asked them to do something, they've done it, and usually a little bit more," he said.
A program started this year also gives graduating seniors $1,000 toward college or trade school.
The casino has already outpaced its expected revenue projections for 2012. Both Sedgwick and Sumner counties get 1 percent of the gaming revenue, so far totaling to about $900,000 each.
