Two Democrats take aim at Pompeo in Kansas 4th District race
Two political newcomers are vying in the Democratic primary for the right to challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo for Kansas' 4th District seat in the U.S. House.
Neither Robert Tillman nor Esau Freeman has ever held elected office. Both say Congress needs to change, and a new person might help speed those changes. Freeman is self-employed and Tillman is a retired court service officer. Both men live in Wichita.
Pompeo, a businessman from Wichita, was first elected to Congress in 2010. The last Democrat to hold the seat was Dan Glickman, who was elected in 1976 but lost to Republican Todd Tiahrt in 1994.
The heart of the 4th District is Wichita, the largest city in Kansas, and Sedgwick County, where aviation is the dominant industry.
