The two GOP candidates for Sedgwick County Sheriff squared off during a forum Thursday hosted by the Wichita Crime Commission.

Sheriff Bob Hinshaw responded to criticism over his department's handling of the investigation into former detention deputy David Kendall, accused of sexually assaulting inmates. " By population size that jail would be the 11th largest in Sedgwick County, but when you consider law enforcement across the nation, we all see the headlines, we all see that we do the best things we can and sometimes bad apples get in." Hinshaw said. " My  office has investigated and charges have been filed."

Wichita Police Captain Jeff Easter, who is running against Hinshaw for the GOP nomination has been critical of the department's handling of the investigation. " If we don't think that this is an election issue then we all have our heads in the sand because it is."  Easter said.  " The

case itself can happen to anybody, its how you manage that case and how your open and transparent about that case that's what's at issue and that's what I'm talking about."
