One killed in accident southeast of Wichita

One person has been killed following a crash that happened shortly after 5 p.m. southeast of Wichita.  

It happened at 55th Street South and 143rd Street East.

Sedgwick County Sheriff's Lt. Mary Mattingly said a car being driven by an elderly man was traveling east of 55th Street South when he ran a stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck traveling south on 143rd Street.

The elderly man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken by EMS to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis with minor injuries.

Lt. Mattingly said the crash is still under investigation.
