No arrests made after disturbance under south Wichita bridge
Police are investigating a weekend disturbance under a south Wichita bridge that resulted in minor injuries for a 38-year-old homeless woman and her 29-year-old brother.
They told officers they were under a bridge in the 3700 block of South Broadway early Sunday when a group of eight people walked by. The woman complained to the group that they were too loud and they should find another bridge, and that's when the group began punching and kicking her.
The woman's brother then jumped into the fight.
Lieutenant Doug Nolte said one of the men pulled out a hatchet and put it to the woman's throat, forcing her to the ground. The woman claimed that she knew kung fu, and she overpowered the man and took the hatchet from him. That's when the eight attackers ran away.
Nolte said the woman and her brother were treated at a hospital. Police found signs of a fight under the bridge, but no arrests have been made.
