Wichita and much of Kansas continue to see excessive heat as a stubborn weather pattern refuses to change. A large high pressure system continues to drive the widespread rains around our area, and keeps the 100 degree heat coming day after day.

For two days in a row (Sunday and Monday), Wichita has hit 111, breaking daily high temperature records for the city. In the summer of 2011, Wichita hit 111 on three different occasions and ended up with 53 100 degree days, which shattered many temperature records for the city. The 100 degree count is now up to 27 for the summer of 2012, and will likely add to it for the rest of this week.

Don't expect a change any time soon. A cold front is expected to slip into Kansas Saturday night, but it won't drop the temperature much. It will provide a chance for showers and storms, but the heat will be sticking around through the weekend and into the first full week of August.
