Fort Riley soldier buried in Wichita
A funeral service was held today for Sgt. Erik May, a 26-year-old who died in Afghanistan.
May joined the Army in 2007, and was later assigned to Fort Riley. He was on his second deployment when he was killed. He had also served in Iraq.
Among the awards May received were: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal with one campaign star and the Iraq Campaign Medal with one campaign star.
A service was held for May at Valley Center Christian Church, with the processional ending at Greenwood Cemetery. Dozens of members of the Patriot Guard joined in the route, as well as several service members and citizens that lined the street along the way.
