Bridge repairs on K-96 begin this Saturday
Motorists who travel along K-96 in east Wichita will be seeing "orange " in the form of construction cones.
The Kansas Department of Transportation begin repair all four bridges this Saturday. The eastbound Kellogg ramp to westbound K-96 will be closed for 10 days while repairs are made on the westbound K-96 bridge over Kellogg. No detour will be posted. Drivers will need to use an alternate route.
Work is likely to begin on the Central and 127th St. bridges soon and traffic will be reduced to single lanes in each direction on the bridges. A 10-day complete closure of the eastbound K-96 bridge over Kellogg is planned to begin on Saturday, Aug. 18. A detour will be posted.
The repairs include patching the bridge decks and overlaying new deck surfaces. KDOT spokesman Tom Hein said its part of the highway preservation component of T-WORKS, an $8 billion, 10-year transportation project approved by the 2010 Kansas Legislature.
