Gas leak forces evacuations at Wichita State University
The Rhatigan Student Center and 4 other buildings on the Wichita State University campus were evacuated for about half an hour Thursday afternoon because of a ruptured gas line. A strong gas odor was reported around 3 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Fairmount, and crews eventually discovered the problem near the Geology Building. That building was evacuated, along with Eliott Hall, Jardine Hall, HR Resources and the Rhatigan Center.
People were allowed back into the buildings about half an hour later, and crews were working to cap the gas line.
Evening events on campus will still be held as scheduled.
