Two prosecutors who were at the side of Sedgwick District Attorney Nola Foulston are now vying to replace her in a Republican race which seemingly cannot shake Wichita's divisive abortion past.
Foulston, a Democrat who supports abortion rights, is retiring after 24 years with no Democrat running to replace her. Foulston led the successful prosecution of the man who shot and killed Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider.
The two Republicans on Tuesday's primary ballot both say they personally oppose abortion but vow to uphold the law.
Kevin O'Connor is a former assistant district attorney now working as a special prosecutor for the Kansas attorney general. He is supported by Kansans for Life and anti-abortion groups.
