Wingnuts rely on extra base hits in win
The Wichita Wingnuts completed Friday's suspended game prior to Saturday night's game with the Sioux City Pheasants.
Wichita was down 7-5 when the game was suspended Friday due to a power outage and weather.
Neither team was able to muster a base runner in the game's final innings. The end result remained 7-5 Sioux Falls.
In the regularly scheduled game, the Wingnuts' bats came to life. Ten of the Wingnuts' 15 hits were of the extra base variety. Mike Conroy led the offensive attack, going 4-for-5 on the night with three doubles and a triple.
After a see-saw battle for the first four innings, Wichita claimed the lead for good in the top of the fifth when David Perlata hammered a three-run double off the top of the wall in right field, bringing home Conroy, Mark Wagner and Greg Porter.
Wichita and Sioux Falls will finish their three-game weekend set today at 5:05 p.m. Wichita returns home to the friendly confines of Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Aug. 13 against the El Paso Diablos.
