Wichita's Central Library branch will reopen Tuesday for normal hours after a problem with bedbugs.

The library was closed Thursday after a customer saw a bedbug on a chair on the first floor. Most of the building was closed down and the library worked with several pest control companies to deal with the problem.

Bedbugs were found on chairs in two lounge seating areas. The city's director of libraries, Cynthia Berner-Harris, said all lounge seating has been removed from the building. All public seating has been treated, along with a limited number of materials from shelves closest to the lounge areas.

The library will be open for normal hours, which will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.  All services except for the rental of meeting rooms will be available.

Two events have been relocated to other areas. The Teens Read Grand Prize Drawing Party will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Evergreen Branch Library at 2601 North Arkansas. Senior Wednesday activities, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday,  will be moved to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum at 204 South Main.

The meeting room rentals and the onsite programs will resume at the Central Library on August 11.

Berner-Harris expressed thanks to library patrons and the community for their patience and support.
