Marc Bennett won the District Attorney race for the 18th district, ahead of Republican opponent Kevin O'Connor.

There is no Democratic opponent, meaning the winner of the primary takes the seat. Bennett will replace the departing Nola Foulston, who had been in the position for 24 years.

Bennett had 21,590 votes, or 54 percent, compared to O'Connor's 18,232, or 45 percent.

Bennett, 42, has spent the past 15 years working in Wichita in the Office of the District Attorney. He has worked over 130 jury trials, including 17 homicides.

He is from Sedgwick County, graduating from Kansas State University and the Washburn University School of Law.
