Sedgwick County commissioners have two more budget hearings
Sedgwick County commissioners will have two public hearings to hear comments on the proposed county budget for next year. The first one will be Thursday at 9 a.m.
Commissioners scheduled two meetings outside of their normal meeting time of Wednesday morning. They have a final public hearing scheduled next Tuesday, Aug. 14, and a day later they will vote on a final budget for 2013.
At their first public hearing July 25, county residents urged commissioners not to cut funding for senior centers. Others spoke against cuts in extension programs.
There was some opposition to the proposed closing of the Judge Riddel Boys Ranch. The commission is looking at a youth day reporting program as a possible replacement for the programs at the boys ranch.
Thursday's hearing is expected to include a report on the impact that the 2013 budget will have on the Sedgwick County Zoo.
