Two-year-old hospitalized after near drowning
A 2-year-old boy has been hospitalized at Wesley Medical Center following a near drowning in Wichita.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. in the Sherwood Acres Mobile Home Park in the 1900 block of East 47th Street.
Billie Wertz and her husband, Greg, helped start CPR for the boy after he was pulled out of the pool.
"We would give him chest compressions, breathe in his mouth, turn him over, let the water come out and do it all over again," Billie said. "We did it two or three times, and finally he started moaning a little bit."
"We administered chest compressions and some mouth-to-mouth CPR. We got him breathing and to choke up a lot of water and food he had had previously," Greg said.
Billie said the boy's heart was beating fast when emergency crews arrived on scene. The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
