Butler County firefighters battle 2 grass fires
Butler County firefighters have contained two separate grass fires that broke out south of El Dorado. The fires were reported on both sides of Highway 77 around 4 p.m. Friday.
Butler County Emergency Management Director Jim Schmidt said the fires extended to a point four miles south of El Dorado. There were four homes that were in immediate danger. Those homes were evacuated and crews were able to keep the flames from getting to the homes.
Schmidt said two wildfire task force units were called to the scene, bringing 10 departments and 30 pieces of apparatus to the area. He said in about 45 minutes, the crews were able to contain the fire.
No injuries were reported.
